About Jess
15A little over five years ago I went from being a vegan to raw vegan after reading and watching the progress people had made mentally, physically and spiritually from adapting this type of lifestyle.
The first raw book I picked up to begin my journey was at a used bookstore for only 12 dollars, “The Complete Book of Raw Food,” by Lori Bard. In a little more than a week I could feel that I was going through a transition and growth. My friends and family could see a difference in my mental state, mood, skin, energy and I was finally sleeping better, my bodily functions were healthy and so on. I was so excited to have my first “Thanksliving” that I made far too much food for myself and even made two different types of pies.
Around this time period I purchased my first juicer, a Jack LaLanne. It was a beautiful relationship from the beginning, I bought my juicer at Macy’s and could only afford it because I signed up for their credit card (15% off my first time) plus I was able to use a 20% off coupon. I now currently own an Omega 8005 and our romance is oh so sweet ❤ I currently own an Omega J8006 and the romance is amazing! 😉
My two favorite raw tools are my juicer and the spiral slicer my brother & sister-in-law gave me for Christmas. I love spiral slicing beets, carrots and zucchini. Some juices I make daily are Green Lemonade, Beet and citrus juice (grapefruit, orange, or pineapple whatever I happen to have around) and anything with kale, beets, cayenne and ginger! My dream is to own a raw cafe where I can teach people what I know and provide others with living food to brighten their life.
I currently live in Middletown, Rhode Island and am looking for clients to assist with cleansing, preparing cleaner foods, helping create their own recipes and other private instruction. I am a Living Light Culinary Institute graduate with certifications as a; gourmet chef, instructor, pastry artist, and advanced raw food educator. I also have a degree in writing and have a 200hr RYT Vinyasa instructor certification.
I am originally from Newport, Rhode Island. Before attending Living Light I worked as a waitress/barista/Juicer/dishwasher at an all natural and organic restaurant. And before that even I worked at an organic and all natural grocery store. In the mornings I opened the produce section, giving vegetables a make over and sometimes cutting up fruit samples for customers. After that I completed orders, and was technically in charge of “speciality foods” which happens to be not a single thing that is vegan :p
I hope to inspire others to become more conscious about what they eat and how food is treated. May be to some that means I have no hope for the future of food, but this is real food, vegetables, herbs, and fruits! I honestly think if more people are aware then we can change how our food is treated and what products can be sold. No one alone can make the shift we need, a group of people can make the greatest shift of all.
Much love ❤ and raw power 😉
We are happy that you liked our Sweet Potato Cracker. We have just come out with a new one that you may really like, our Savory Cranberry Cracker. Check out our web site for other new raw products, including raw pizza crusts. If you could, “Like Us” on our Facebook link! Havit Raw Foods.
I am going to look that book up on Amazon and see if it is available.
Hi Jess,
Do you preserve foods with a dehydrator?
Sometimes, not very often though since they tend to take all of the water out of food it makes them more dense. Sometimes I freeze things, it all depends on what the item is.
Hi Jess, I’m a customer of A Market and I remember you back when you worked there. I had no idea you were a raw foodie – too bad we didn’t connect around that. I’m going to be doing a juice feast in about a week and I’m really looking forward to it. I hope you’re doing well in L.A. Take care – Veronica
[…] About Jess […]
I appreciate reading a women’s journey to better health and wellbeing. I don’t think I can follow a Raw Vegan Diet, but I know that my relationship with food has to change. I lost over 40 pounds in the last year, by changing my eating habits, and now I have a passion for eating healthy foods. I am looking for a healthy balance and your blog seems like a great place to read up on what Raw Vegan foods can do good for the body. It’s so important for people to wake up and notice that how you eat effects your mental and emotional states of wellbeing as well as health related problems. It’s all connected. Can’t wait to start reading your blogs. CHEERS 🙂

Hi Jess!
My name is Alana and I came across your blog on youtube. I was searching for videos of people who have done Ani Phyo’s 15 Day Fat blast. I know that I am a few years late, but I am currently on day 3 and was happy to watch your videos. This is my very 1st experience with eating raw after eating very unhealthily.
Today at school I brought the pina colada smoothie for lunch and one of my class mates criticized me and said that I was very unhealthy for doing a cleanse and that the smoothie had too much sugar. I felt a little discouraged, but did not give up. When I came home I watched your video and it was just what I needed to see to keep me going.
I really enjoy how positive you are and am looking forward to following you and reading more!
