Today I made a “No-Stress Blood Orange Spritzer (with Magnesium).” On For The Love Of Food Blog, Sonnet discuss the importance of Magnesium, how to get it from whole foods and symptoms of lacking magnesium. I think it is also important to stress something that Sonnet went over in this article.
Sonnet says, “Maybe it’s just my perspective, but I feel like in America we are obsessed with taking calcium supplements and preventing osteoporosis. However, what we don’t often know is that we need to have a balance between calcium and magnesium. If we have too much calcium and not enough magnesium, this can actually cause symptoms of excess calcium, including: osteoporosis, heel spurs, kidney stones, gallstones, and fibromyalgia. (I won’t go deep into my personal history here, but I actually developed gallstones at the age of fourteen and I definitely attribute this to excess calcium from dairy products and calcium-only supplements.)”
Another great article I recently read on Magnesium is on a wonderful website called Natural Society if you are interested in learning more about Magnesium deficiency. Like always, I highly recommend speaking to your doctor before deciding on your own that you are deficient. I completely agree with Sonnet that in America we are more or less obsessed with calcium & also magnesium.
I have many recipes on my site using plant based foods for magnesium as well as calcium.
❤
So here was how my experience went this morning making this juicy “No-Stress Blood Orange Spritzer (With Magnesium).”
No-Stress Blood Orange Spritzer
Makes two 16 ounce drinks
Ingredients:
2 cups fresh blood orange juice (about 6 medium oranges, I had small oranges so I used around 10)
1 – 2 teaspoons Natural Calm Raspberry-Lemon Flavor magnesium supplement
16 ounces sparkling water
Ice
Fresh mint for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
Juice oranges and mix with magnesium powder. Add sparkling water, ice, and garnish with fresh mint (optional). Carefully pour and mix since this will have a soda overflowing effect. Serve and enjoy!
❤
This drink reminded me of a cocktail that I would serve to friends or loved ones. The sweetness of the blood oranges blended in perfectly with the calm powder. The powder actually dissolves rather quickly also and does not leave any grainy, sugary feel to the drink. I had this after working out and it felt amazing to have a nice fizzy sweet drink that helped me feel recharged again.
If you have never had the chance to try a blood orange, PLEASE DO! Oh my goodness the flavor, appearance and health benefits of this juicy citrus fruit are absolutely wonderful. I have a previous post all about blood oranges for anyone who is interested in learning about them.
❤
I hope this post gives you all some ideas about magnesium, calcium, blood oranges and may be even some fun juicy cocktails to make at your home. Thank you all for your support, comments, and for taking the time to stop by my website. Best wishes to those entering the giveaway! I personally have never won a giveaway so it seems extra exciting to host one. Much love ❤ and raw power 😉
