Tropical Kale Juice. Citrus Fruits For Warmth. Are Beets “Bad”? Working On Getting Warm!

Holy guacamole Batman it was not fun losing electricity for roughly 24 hours! I had my produce in cooler bags outside (they got a little frost on them but nothing that was damaging), we had already stocked up on loads of spring water, battery operated candles, I re-washed and dried all of the blankets in the house, loads of wood, branches, paper, books, you get the point ;-)!

The first thing I did this morning to celebrate having the electricity back again was, *drumroll* make a juice!

Tropical Kale Juice

2-4 kiwis, peeled (all depends on how kiwi strong you want this to be)
1 cup of pineapple (mine were cubes)
8 kale leaves
4 celery sticks
1 lime, rind removed
1 lemon, rind removed
Small handful of cilantro
1/2-inch ginger, peeled

Once this is all juiced you can add 1/2 cup of coconut water for an extra tropical experience 😉 it’s completely up to you!

It may seem bonkers to have tropical fruits during the winter time, but actually they are ideal for getting warm and getting some extra Vitamin C ❤ Greens are highly detoxing and anything yellow for the most part is connected to beauty health. So this drink serves many amazing purposes with loads of flavor too 😀

While my electricity was down I had a few fun food ideas. Sadly I can not get my computer working, the Internet is down, so I am currently using my iPad at a tea shop! The photos I took of my other meals are on my camera since I lost all cellular phone juice by then.

But I do have a photograph of my breakfast. I got this idea from a snack on Ani Phyo’s 15 Day Fat Blast which I have several posts about since I followed her book twice! I used pomelo instead of grapefruit, that’s pretty much the only difference except I used turmeric and nutmeg too. The coconut oil, cinnamon, ginger and coconut oil all provide a little boost to our metabolism. I found this to be very warming while eating and afterwards.

Cinnamon Ginger Pomelo – Great Snack or Breakfast idea

1 Pomelo, peeled, and each slice cut into thirds or your preference
1 teaspoon coconut oil, warmed so it can spread evenly onto your pieces of pomelo
According to your taste buds; ginger, turmeric, nutmeg and cinnamon (warming spices which happen to get our metabolism really going)

I personally enjoy using my hands to mush is all together and make a good attempt to cover every piece as evenly as possible. Another great idea is to make this in a bowl or container and shake it 🙂

On occasion I make this exact same thing but with an apple instead of a grapefruit or pomelo. This is super comforting, and really hits that winter holidays spot. Below is a photo of that.

I had a reader ask me a great question about the nutritional values in raw beets. Herhere a link to a Nutrition Data site where you can plug in what item you want to know about and the quantity. This link is for one cup of raw beets, they are high in carbs but very low in calories and fat, the little calories that are in this vegetable are from the sugar in them. Depending what type of food lifestyle you currently have a smaller amount of beets may be best for you. I have mentioned in many posts to start off with a quarter to a half of beets in any recipe if raw beets or beets in general are new to you. I personally follow this same rule with herbs since a small amount goes a long way. Please check out this website for more information on fruit, vegetables, herbs, meat and so on. This way you are prepared to make a lifestyle that works best for you!

So are beets “bad”? Oh my goodness no! Anything that came from a seed, was planted on our Earth is excellent! Anything packaged with a shelf life that could last for years is what is “bad” if I had to use bad and food in the same sentence. There is a fear we put around food that I would greatly like to stay away from. There are things that are good and things that are better. If you just can’t get yourself to like beets no matter how they are prepared, please do not freak out! There are loads of other fruits, vegetables, herbs and yummy goodness out there that has many of the same health benefits. Beets are amazingly detoxing and happen to be linked to weight loss IF other healthier choices are made also.

Many foods can promote weight loss, promote health and give you an energy boost. Just have fun in the grocery store, try to buy something that looks “new” to you in the produce section frequently. Life is an adventure, our mental state and body are frequently changing. Embrace it and tune in ❤ Typically this is a beautiful, strengthening and uplifting experience.
