Chlorella is a single cell green algae that consists of chlorophyll (arguably one of the richest sources) and polysaccharides. It is one of the most heavy metal detoxing foods out there and it is an excellent micronutrient food meaning it is high in protein & has decent levels of fat, carbohydrates, fiber, minerals and vitamins. I have heard of Chlorella and other algae being used for; weight loss, eye health, brain function, energy boost, cancer prevention, and immune system support. As well as; the ability to reduce high blood pressure, lower serum cholesterol levels, accelerate wound healing, and anti-tumor properties.

Chlorella is also used to increase good bacteria in the intestine thus improving digestion. Some say this aids in treating ulcers, colitis, Crohn’s disease, and diverticulosis. Other uses for chlorella are: stress-related ulcers, remedy constipation, bad breath, and hypertension. It is a wonderful source of antioxidants used to; reduce cholesterol, increase energy, detox, and as a source of magnesium (mental health, relieve premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and reduce asthma attacks. It is also used for fibromyalgia.). Chlorella can be used topically for treating skin ulcers & rashes caused by radiation treatment.

Chlorella can be found in many different forms such as a powder, tablet or liquid. I find the powder and tablets easier to use with almost no odor (liquid form smells like a dirty fish tank to me), I can add a tablet or powder to a juice or smoothie or just take a tablet orally with no special drink.

It can be found at pretty much any grocery store now-and-days because it is a popular algae, it will be located in the supplement isle usually near other green powders, protein powders and “superfood” blends.

My main reason for using Chlorella is for clean, healthy and happy cells & blood. Since Chlorella is in the algae and Chlorophyll family it provides the light, nutrients, growth and repair our blood needs. As well as the tissues in our body!

For more information about chlorella here is a collection from natural news that I enjoy.

There are an insane amount of brands out there now for Chlorella. Here is a list of some helpful tips on how to pick which brand will work well and really provide the benefits we all are hoping for.

  • Check where the algae is grown, it’s typically in fresh water from another country. Make sure it’s somewhere that YOU feel comfortable having a fresh water plant consumed from.
  • Chlorella products can vary significantly depending on the way “the crop” used to make them was cultivated, harvested, and processed. This is why I recommend buying some from a raw company and also checking the label for any addition information. The protein, carbohydrate, fat, vitamins and mineral levels are all effected by this.

Also on the label check if the cell wall of chlorella was broken down. It must be broken down before people can digest it 🙂

There are a few brands I can recommend that have wonderful information on how they source and breakdown Chlorella for those who are interested. I personally never usually stick to using just one brand all of the time because I am open to trying new brands out so I can find one that I honestly FEEL a difference.

I’m also the type of person who when it comes down to it which ever one of these brands is on sale I’ll go for it hahaha 😀 These are just places for you to check out, please do your own research too! We all have different companies, products and foods that resonate with us differently. I could possibly be looking for less protein than you or etc for example. I am not getting paid, sponsored or anything on my site, these are just products that I have personally tired and like how they make their product. So here is the list in no specific order.

I like how on The Raw Food World’s page there is even a chart with the grams of how much Chlorella to take for specific needs ❤ Super-duper amazing! Currently I am using their brand of Chlorella.

I find adding my tabs to a citrus juice to be the most delicious. I recently freshly squeezed Clementines, added the juice in my blender with a few Chlorella tablets and made a yummy juice before working out. What a great way to get the blood flowing and to promote more detoxing and love for my insides 😉

Here is a photo of the finished product

I have loads of juice recipes on my site, pretty much anything that is a little fruity works great with Chlorella and or any other algae (Spirulina which has 26 times the calcium in milk, Chlorophyll). I’ve made great dressings and dips usings these powders in the past, it can add a satisfying thickness and replace or compliment fats in a salad.

Have fun with it and have your own little experiment in your kitchen! Thank you all for taking the time to stop by my site. Much love ❤ and raw power 😉

xoxo Jess
