Two Days ago, January 12th, Day 11 my tummy box enjoyed:

Blendtec Seasonal Green Smoothie

Ingredients:

½ C Water (I didn’t add this)
1 banana
1 orange, peeled* (I used a navel, provides lots of juice and the color isn’t overbearing)
1 pear, quartered and cored (Only D’Anjou pears were ripe at the store, y first pick would be Barlett then D’Anjou –personal preference)
2 C spinach or preferred leafy greens (I used all my spinach, I wanted to do a 50/50 mix of dinosaur kale and spinach)
1 C ice cubes (I didn’t use ice cubes/don’t have them)

Directions:
Juice all of the ingredients and add to the banana in the blender. *Before peeling orange, remove some zest.

This smoothie is heavy on the banana and orange so please make sure you choose ones that please your taste preferences. Picking a banana that is not all that ripe may leave a texture in your mouth that will make you even more thirsty & tasteless. Do not juice the orange peel! Just zest the orange, peel the orange cut it in half or quarters and juice it. I found the orange to be overwhelming, may be I put too much zest in, my orange was a little larger or because I modified the recipe the balance was thrown off.

Winter Green Smoothie Green Rev Book

Ingredients:

1 cup frozen berries (any kind)

2 cups fresh spinach greens

2 cups water

1/4 inch fresh ginger root, or to taste

I didn’t end up liking this smoothie, it was tasteless. I used raspberries and strawberries but it still had no flavor to it. It smelt terrible too!

Yesterday, January 12th, Day 12 I enjoyed:

  • 32 oz Hot Water with Lemon
  • 2 liters water
  • Green Detox Juice from fitsugar.com, and was wishing the recipe made more! The website has a brief paragraph on the health benefits of this juice. This juice has the perfect balance of lemon, ginger, and greens. The apples add a nice sweetness and provide a lot of juice! I found this juice to be cleansing and very successful with the flushing process 😉

Recipe:

1/2 bunch spinach
1 handful watercress
1/2 lemon, peeled
1 celery stalk
2 apples

Today January 13th, Day 13:

I have a line up of Norwalk pressed juices from Wildflour! I have a busy day and will not be home so I stocked up. I purchased:

Wildflour 1-13 Goodies

  • Beetox (carrot, apple, beet, ginger, lemon)
  • Mr. Green Genes (cucumber, spinach, celery, parsley, kale, lemon)
  • The Hobbit (carrot, apple, celery, ginger)

I will probably end up consuming them in this order.

Wildflour uses a Norwalk Juicer that naturally slows down the oxidizing process in juices so the juice has all its live vitamins and minerals for about 4 days. It is capable of this because it is cold-pressed, keeping maximal amounts of; vitamins, trace minerals, enzymes, and other vital elements preserved. The Norwalk Juicer extracts juice through the tremendous pressure exerted by a Hydraulic Press, which produces 50-100% more juice than other juicers. I may sound and look crazy stocking up on juices made from a juice bar but the taste of the Norwalk juices are rawmazing, so crisp, clean, and pure! Why don’t I own one? It’s around $3,000 for one :X

Juicing is a great way to get lots of greens and veggies that are essential for alkalizing, lowering cholesterol and an easy way to add more chlorophyll into your diet (prevents bad breath, body odors, natural detoxifier and neutralizes free radicals that damage cells).

Mood, Energy, and Body Check-In:

I’m still feeling really good! No mood swings, energy crashes or freak outs. Today I’m very relaxed, it’s my day off, I went to yoga already today and now I’m enjoying some vinyl records. It’s very windy where I live, much worse than yesterday.

My feet have been looking especially white lately and feel much colder than normal. My skin after heated steamed yoga had a little bit of a break out similar to when I have an allergic reaction to something, possibly from the heat? This gives me the impression that I’m not done detoxing just yet. I was going to cleanse for 14 days but now I’m reconsidering how long I should go for.

Other observations:

I’ve been sleeping very well and usually wake up feeling ready to go. My Tragus piercing has been irrated so I went snooping around the internet. It looks many raw vegans have this problem; the body is clean, fierce, and wants to fight foreign objects. I found this forum all about raw vegans with tattoos, piericings or both. I’ve been told numerous times before that I look like a Vegan but not a Raw Foodie because of the way I dress and my piercings. I guess people expect me to wear all green clothes or something with the word “Raw” written all over? Or because I don’t wear make-up on my third eye? I’d love to understand this.

It’s very difficult holding a “normal” social life and being a raw vegan. People assume too much and ask too little. Sometimes I don’t like going to places or meeting new people just because I don’t want to have to defend myself the whole time. It’s a life style choice, not a religion it’s just like how someone decides they prefer zumba over pilates or something along those lines. All of our bodies are different, there are different regiments and needs for everyone of us. I personally do not believe that being a raw vegan works for everyone. I gradually got myself to this point, I didn’t go from being a meat and potato person to a veggie maniac.

I’m working on an article all about holding a social life and being a raw vegan, especially when you don’t live in California, New York or Florida where this life style is common. For someone my age as well (I’m 24) it can be a struggle at times. But there’s ways of making it work, I promise.

Have a great day everyone! Thank you for reading and all of your lovely comments.

xoxo
